The Neo-Photoshades have been created to provide a protective and secure eye shield for the infant when they require phototherapy treatment.

The ergonomic shape and soft cushioned structure ensures that the Neo-Photoshades will block any harmful light to the infant’s eyes.

They are extremely useful in busy and under-staffed neonatal units, where vigilant eye care of infants undergoing phototherapy may be difficult.

Features

• Consists of a very soft comformable PU backing film coated on one side with a soft silicone adhesive: for use on patients with sensitive or fragile skin such as neonates
• The gentle adhering capability of the silicone gel backing will ensufer that the eye shield is in place during the whole process
• The measurements of the fabric and whole eye shields are provided to enable the correct size to be used
• Provides completer blockage of external light due to the hight desnity black fabric backing. The fabric in contact with the eye is pure cotton with no dye

Application information

We normally recommend to change these every seven days. There is a plastic sheet which comes along inside the packing. If removal is required, this should be used to place the removed the eye shield, for example during breast/bottle feeding. The babies should get a rest every three hours during feeding time. 

"Phototherapy is the use of visible light to treat severe jaundice in the neonatal period. Approximately 60% of term babies and 85% preterm babies will develop clinically apparent jaundice, which classically becomes visibly apparent on day 3, peaks days 5-7 and resolves by 14 days of age”. 

Under normal circumstances, the nurse or healthcarer will use only one piece of eye shield for one baby (single use). If, however, they drop the eye shield on the floor or contaminate it for any other reason, they should discard and replace with a clean eyeshield.
